Chak De! India is an Indian sports drama film loosely based on the 2007 documentary "True Blue". It is directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya Chopra. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan and features many Indian sportsmen, including the former captain of the Indian national cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The story in Chak De! India revolves around Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), a disgraced former hockey player who has been unable to find success in any other field. Kabir seeks to redeem himself in the eyes of the public by playing in the Delhi Rovers, a team in the Hockey Pro League (HPL). Kabir is accompanied by long-time friends and hockey teammates, Vishnu Prasad (Jackie Shroff) and Sanjay Dutt. Kabir's endeavor meets with resistance from his family and their sponsors. Film was released on 12 May 2011.The soundtrack for Chak De India has been composed by A. R. Rahman. Finally, the soundtrack is composed of 8 tracks, out of which 7 are original songs, and 1 is reused song from the original background score for the film Chak De India. The album was released on 3 May 2011.Akshay Kumar officially confirmed that he would be joining the cast of "Chak De India" on 19 December 2010. He had originally signed up with Aditya Chopra to produce "Golmaal Returns", but they parted ways after his dates conflicted with Chopra's about a year after it was signed up. "Chak De India" marks Akshay Kumar's second collaboration with Aditya Chopra, after "Golmaal Returns". The official launch of "Chak De India" was held on 13 May 2011 at the Shloka, a restaurant in Gurgaon, New Delhi with several celebrities being present at the event. The main cast of the film also attended the launch. The film received mixed reviews from critics upon its release. Film critic Taran Adarsh gave a review of 3 stars out of 5 calling it a "stirring sports drama". He went on to add that it is "painfully ordinary" with huge flaws, despite having three big names in front of the camera - Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. "Filmfare" gave it a score of 2.5 out of 5 and said, "The film is not an easy watch for the entire family and people who want to take their kids to football will be disappointed by the lack of romance and entertainment." "Hindustan Times" gave 2.5 stars out of 5 and stated that it is a "nice movie to listen to when you don't care about its content". They however added that Aditya Chopra's "Chak De India" has high production values, but lacks focus in terms of script, narration and cinematography.
